The Sunflower Garden is a fun place to see many different types of a flower you may think you are familiar with!

This garden includes 19 varieties of sunflowers. These varieties are evaluated for disease and pest resistance, as well as flowering characteristics.

Common Name Description

Sunspot Dwarf

18 inches tall; this variety has huge 10 inch yellow flowers and can be used for cut flowers or in planters.

Teddy Bear

24 inches tall. The plants have 8 inch double golden plush looking blooms that, because of their height, can easily be incorporated in a standard garden.

Moonshine

This 4 foot variety has cool, pale lemon petals surrounding a large dark, center— A unique medium size sunflower with a large flower.

Autumn Beauty Mixed colors

This sunflower choice has flowers that include rust, orange and bicolor blooms on a 4-6 foot plant. They are considered one of the best for bouquets in addition to looking great in the summer garden.

Golden Hedge

Height: 4-5 feet. This is a unique, pollen-less variety that branches well. They have flowers with light centered, golden 6 inch blooms that make great cut flowers because they don’t shed. They will actually form a hedge when planted in a row due to their branching habit

Mixed Colors

As the name describes, the blooms are of mixed colors. The plants arc expected to get at least 4.5 feet tall. Flowers can be lemon, gold, cream, bronze and crimson.

Red Sun

This sunflower reaches a height of 5 feet. Its vivid blooms are various shades of crimson and red making it a focal point, in a drab garden.

Ebony and Gold

5 to 6 foot plants. Each plant has several 5-inch golden blooms that include a larger than normal black eye.

Evening Sun Mixed Colors

This 5- 6 loot variety is described as having a glowing assortment of sunset colors with velvety petals that make the flowers more intense. A large percentage of the flowers are expected to be of red and mahogany shades.

Vanilla Ice

A 5-6 foot tall variety. The color of this sunflower is described as the color of French vanilla ice cream with a dark chocolate center. The single blooms are in clusters on slightly curved stems. This sunflower is considered to be one of the best for bouquets, as the cut flowers are long lasting and the plant tends to produce more blooms after each cutting.

Velvet Queen

A 5-6 foot variety that has crimson red blooms that are 8-10 inches across, the dark centered blooms have petals with the texture of velvet.

Lemon Queen

Height 5-6 feet. This dark eyed sunflower produces large 10 inch lemon yellow flowers with semi-double petals on a well branched plant.

Strawberry Blonde Hybrid

A 6 foot plant with 5 to 6 inch rose pink blooms with dark centers; the plants are well branched for cutting and the uniquely colored flowers are pollen-less.

Moulin Rouge Hybrid

This is a 6 foot variety with dark red flowers that is expected to be one of the most noticeable in the garden.

Bohemian Rhapsody hybrid

This 6 foot sunflower has bi-color pollen-less flowers with a pleasing blend of red and gold. Excellent for cut flowers.

Royal Flush hybrid

A 6 foot sunflower excellent for cut flowers due to blooms of assorted shades of red, rust, gold and yellow; blooms have many variations of form and fullness.

Double Sungold

This sunflower gets 6 feet tall, with unique, unusual golden blooms that are rounded, fuzzy looking and large. The centers of the flowers are green.

Golden Cheer Hybrid

Height 6 feet. This is an English variety with a branching habit. Blooms are up to 5 inches across and can be used for cutting. This hybrid is pollen free.

Mammoth

This variety gets 7 to 12 feet tall with one huge flower that is 12 inches across. The big dark brown eye is surrounded by golden petals. As the flowers fade, the seeds mature and make great eating if you can keep the birds away! This is one of the best for wildlife.
